People call my braids plats here. I don't like that word. It makes me think of a land formations, not hair.

Well, I've been munching on some "healthy" cheesy chips while waiting for Michael. I didn't want to eat any of the junk food from my package until he got home and we can share it, but now I'm ill. These things are airy so I hardly noticed I was eating so many until the stomach ache hit about halfway through the bag. Ugh. Also, they are really tasty but the packaging is really horrible. They look like bacteria puffs. The black bag is a bit forbidding too. The black death... in chip form.

THANK YOU JANE & MARY [Dec. 7th, 2006|08:30 am]
[I'm feeling |Joyful]

I got it, I got it I got it! The box, it finally came. I didn't expect it to be so huge. Oh I was so excited. I got such a beautiful necklace and a gigantic overflowing bag of American goodies. I got MST3K videos and my old journals, trash magazines, stupid cartoons, books... my nintendo game cube, my n64. OH THANK YOU SO MUCH.

It was postmarked Oct. 16th, it is now Dec 7th here, so I guess that makes it a little under 2 months since it was sent. It was more than worth the wait though. I would have waited 6 months for a package like this. It made my day (and the next few too).

Run, Postman, Run! [Dec. 5th, 2006|02:53 pm]
[I'm feeling |peeved]

When I was a kid, I heard that the Roman empire had a faster and more efficient mail service than the USA has today. Now this may well be another urban legend, as I heard it a few times from different people and it has that funky fact allure like the plague roots of Ring Around the Rosies. Those little "guess what I heard..." kind of facts that are fun to tell friends. Still, I wouldn't be surprised.

Two months in, I haven't received any letters or packages. My letters arrive fine. They meet the one to two week deadline quite admirably. However, when my friends send mail, the USA postal service decides to store them away in some remote warehouse amid the sheep fields of Montana. And there they sit, waiting for that day some terribly bored employee decides to clear out some space and clean up the aisles of letters, cards, and candy boxes, all carefully wrapped and stamped with the promise of being delivered in two weeks as of October 4th, 1932.

Now, maybe the Roman empire had superb postal service simply because the postmen were too frightened not to deliver letters on time. Back then, it doesn't seem a stretch to think of postal employees being flogged for lateness. Still, if it is true, that's a sad reality. What with that cooky invention, the plane, replacing long ocean journeys in squalid sailing ships, you'd think we'd be delivering letters ahead of time. Lordy be, what's this world coming to?!

Oh, on other matters, check out my little crazy eyes killah )

"So what do you and Micheal need for Christman? Mom"

On other matters, Michael brought home the unedited versions of the original Star Wars trilogy for me. Joy! Love! Max Rebo...

Thank you Michael, I shall enjoy them muchly in all their 80's glory. Ah, to be 9 and dorky again, using Jane's metal Crayola crayon holder as a lightsaber.

[I'm feeling |supertastic]

Life plods along, as it does. I saw Borat with Michael last Saturday which was absolutely hilarious. We then wandered around the city and played on the swings for a bit. There was a nice beach nearby, so we walked along that too. The resteraunts were closing by that time, so we ended up having greasy chinese takeaways and took a taxi home. Oh, we also got ICO for playstation, which is a puzzle game. I've been playing that a bit and it's pretty fun. Michael's been addicted to Knights of the Old Republic, another fun game, but I can only take a little bit of those kinds of games at a time. I can only play ICO in about 15 minute spats.

Here's Michael's results.

You scored as Friedrich Nietzsche. Well you're an egotistical maniac, and you are so very iconoclastic that you probably are currently lost in a post-modern Jupiter, I mean jungle of self-definition.

Don't let it get you down though, someday, through a willful onslaught of reinterpretation of dated forms and ideas, you will strike on something that passes as remotely new, and people WILL be into it on the basis of how hip it is alone. Also, the average espresso drinker looks up to you.

Woot [Oct. 30th, 2006|10:47 am]
I suppose I'll get back into livejournal again, but I've been very lackluster about posting lately.

News:
I got my work visa

I'm looking for a job and taking my sweet time doing it. I demand that I get one I actually like. If I dislike a job, I know I won't keep it for long.

Happy Birthday to Michael (Oct. 26th). I'll list the festivities...

-We ate out at a grossly expensive restaurant that has insanely good food and was blessedly quiet and empty. There was a band there, and we theorized that the drummer was madly in love with the saxophone player. It must have been unrequited because the saxophone player was standing a good 10 feet apart from the other band members.

-Rented and burned the first season of Scrubs and the second season of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

-Michael got a sweater from his Auntie Gaye and a card from his mom in London with a voice message that sounded like a Howler (this was probably a card meant to be opened on a busy street and not in a silent living room). He also received 250 dollars from her which covered the dinner and the awesome presents I bought him.

-My presents included A bizarre card I came upon with an image of a black cat labeled as such in bold. Inside it said, 'Happy Birthday'. What did the maker think when drawing this card? It was from a cutesy collection with flowers, ballet slippers, and puppies, so I know the humor wasn't intentional. Appropriately I wrote, 'wishing you all the bad luck in the world', under the printed message.

I also got two books (Perfume and a novelty fact book), a funky bag with overpriced tissue paper, chocolate cupcakes, a shiny banner, and some balloons (one of which Michael has turned into a Jewish gangster).

That's about all I have to report besides the fact I want to see this movie oh so badly.
It's based off the book I got Michael.

Things I bought for myself:
2 dresses, a wonderfully modest black bathing suit, a nice sweater, and sandals. Huzzah!

Out.

I just got bit by  my cat while trying to administer a pill. This cat really, really, really doesn't like pills so it's a royal pain in the ass. On top of all that, I have 4 weeks more of her twice a day antibiotic regimine.

After being bitten, I consulted the all knowing internet and read that cat bites (this one definitely broke skin on two fingers) should always be seen by a doctor. Really? What about when you don't have any money? I will in due time, I wrote the keeper of the emergency cash fund in my family, but transfering money takes a day usually.  If I'm not alive in a day, I hope someone informs the post office.

The journal before this one was such an exciting, happy point in my life. I had such a fun time with Jane. this is a great time too, but that point of my life was all anxious and exciting. I was waiting to come here and counting the days. There was Star Wars and Harry Potter, all these great things were going on at once. I dunno, it's just so very nostalgic and I was sifting through it and smiling. There are some good, funny ol' entries on it. It's a short, short journal. But, I like it that way.

quizzes suck. [Sep. 18th, 2006|04:40 pm]
[I'm feeling |blah]

1. Creamy or Chunky PB? I prefer not to say.

2. What is your mood today? I feel headachy

5. Why do you feel that way? Because I do

6. If you could get away with it, what crime would you commit? I'd rob a shoe store with a wooden gun.

7. How many tattoos do you have? I prefer scars. I have a war scar on my foot from a kamakazi pickle jar that shattered on top of it when I opened the fridge last year. I had to pull out a really long piece of glass. I like that one a lot, it sings to my toes.

8. Who has entry #10 on your cell phone? Someone I don't know because the cellphone I have is not mine and anyone who calls it doesn't know me. I might also note the voicemail message doesn't have my name in it either. I am Wendy, according to my phone.

9. What is your favorite word to say? unsure.

10. Do you have a passport? yes. It has my proper name on it, unlike my phone.

11. What’s one thing about the opposite sex you hate? the way their knees look.

12. What’s one thing about the opposite sex you love? the way their knees don't look.

13. Do you drink? Blood. Preferably warm.

14. What’s your dream job? In my dream last night I worked in a grocery store chasing around a three legged cat.

15. What’s one thing you’re looking forward to before New Year’s? The beach. A banana fritter.

16. What’s something you like to eat that most people think is weird? "We know you eat your own farts"

17. Who’s your favorite person in the world? General Kovolovolof

18. If you had $1000 to blow in any store, which would it be? the salvation army, I'd get 10 times as many things as I would elsewhere.

19. What’s your favorite brand of toilet paper? The white stuff with no flower prints or funny smells on it.

20. What do you smell like? a human being.

21. What’s one part of your personality you want to change? My headache.

22. What’s one thing you want to do before you die? I'd really like to do something of anything, other than staring at a computer, at this moment in time.

23. What’s one show you wished had never made it on air? I wouldn't know, the reception on this hill is too shitty for me to watch anything but static.

24. What’s the longest relationship you’ve ever been in? I have been a daughter for 23 years and counting.

25. Last time you danced? I swung my cat around to something or another the other day. It didn't like that I don't think. Too bad.

Zoo! [Jun. 20th, 2006|11:25 am]
Yesterday we made a day of it at the Wellington Zoo. Twas a bit drizzly, cloudy, and cold, but those are the best days because the zoo is never crowded when it's cold and gray. Even better for me, these are my favorite kind of days and I get a whole zoo to myself. Well almost.

I'd say the Wellington zoo is a bit strange in that a lot of exhibits do not have very high walls or fences. Except for the dangrous or delicate animals, usually you can reach right over and touch them. Of course, you are never supposed to and I wouldn't risk being bitten. Still, I could forsee some obnoxious kids wreaking havoc, and the signs aren't much of a deterent. In fact, they are downright hilarous and I documented the best ones. Michael and I were quite delighted by the little details, like droplets of blood, and a single tear of a child when being scolded for throwing objects at a bloodied monkey.

As far as zoo food, we were a bit put off by the fancy pancy cafe at the front serving such specialties as eggs benidict. Wtf! Who serves eggs benidict and roasted lamb with scalloped potatos at a zoo? Well these people did, and fortunately, we did eventually find a cafe serving proper zoo food. I ordered a corn dog, fries, and ice cream. This is my favorite meal when I'm at the zoo, it's just tradition. Mind you, with NZ being the meat obsessed and cholesteral overload country, they used a sausage instead of a hot dog. If you ever come here I'll warn you ahead of time, the "hot dogs" are actually just a large fried sausage. If you are interested, you can also get a fried candy bar as well.

Now for the best part...

watching the planes come in and lots of tv [May. 16th, 2006|03:09 pm]
Well, life has sort of got back into a normal pace. I have a lot of time on my hands to figure out how to use constructively. I'm sick of wasting time these days, I'm going to do something good with it. I got a letter from my new "Auntie Dot" today. Having a new family is rather neat if you get an Aunt named Dot out of it.

I'm waiting for some of our stuff to be shipped up from Whangarei, and my mother agreed to ship some of my things up from Portland. The house will remain rather plain until then. I can't wait to start cluttering the walls as I'm prone to doing.

Yesterday, Michael and I sat down and watched 5 episodes of X-files and 4 episodes of arrested development. He was sick, but It was a very relaxed, nice sick day. We built a cocoon in the computer room to ward off the fridgerator temperature of the house and figured out how to cook microwave popcorn over the stove. The day before we walked up to the end of our street and sat and watched the scary view. There's a sheer drop into the bay and it's probably 500 feet or more. It's a nice view, but you don't want to be racing your car past our house too fast.

I rather like walking to the airport to pick Michael up these days. I get to watch all the planes come in. It's particularly interesting in the Wellington airport because the runway starts about 10 meters from a drop into the bay. The plane comes in from the fog over the water, you can see only the lights, and then the huge body of it swoops over you onto the cement and it's very thrilling, if not a bit frightening. I've never seen the huge 747 international planes come in, but I'd like to one of these days. Michael says we'd go deaf, but I'll bring earplugs, I want to be right underneath it on the bench that's by the rocks. I don't care if it might crash and flatten me. The odds are fairly low that it will. I'll take my chances.

Wedding Photos! [May. 8th, 2006|08:37 am]
Ah, it was a very nice wedding and just how I imagined it to be, Small and relaxed. The last thing I ever wanted in my life was to be stressed out on my wedding. Anyway, it started out that we got up in the morning and flew into Whangarei on the tiniest little plane I've ever been on. It was around 18 seats and you could see the cockpit and the pilots and all the controls and such. Whangarei doesn't have a big enough airport to support the giant regular planes, so little planes have to be used. It was a bit bumpy, but really fun.

We arrived around 11am and lounged around for awhile just enjoying ourselves. Wendy had stocked enough food for a week and expected us to eat it somehow. We ate a bit, but I didn't want to eat too much because of dinner and the food Robin and Mike were bringing (Matt's parents). I got my dress on at around 2pm, we put the pink bow on Gemma who looked gorgeous, and We tidyed the house. There were minimal decorations. We had a table with some shells and a cloth on it for the signing of the certificate (shells being my choice), and the dinner table had a table cloth ready for food.

When the marriage celebrant arrived, we all gathered in the living room, took a long time getting Gemma to sit, and then he guided us through the vows with some jokes and such. Afterwards we signed the papers. Nibbles followed, the celebrant went home, we sat around until about 5:30, then went to the restaurant. Gemma felt left out at that point. =/ I changed out of my dress into jeans and a shirt, and we ate and ate. We cut the cake after dinner and everyone was having a lot of fun taking purposeful unflattering pictures. Michael and I did fork wars holding the forks under our rings, Matt's dad made us napkin roses, and I ate cake off the butcher knife. All was well in Whangarei, New Zealand for the Coleman family that night, and I'd say it was the happiest, most laid back wedding I've ever been to.

Oh, and I am no longer Mary Clark! My name is now Mary Coleman. Signature conflict is going to ensue, much like what happens when writing the date after the year changes.

Chistchurch. [Apr. 10th, 2006|12:47 pm]
I went to Christchurch a couple days ago to see Michael's family. They lived on a gigantic farm an hour or so outside of town (probably around 800 acres now with the new land they bought) full of sheep and crops that were meant eventually to feed sheep. The highlight of the trip I suppose was the stuffed lion I saw at a buffet restaraunt we ate at. It was just there, randomly, in the middle of farmland nowhere, eternally atacking the window with fangs bared. Who bought it? Where did they get it from?

Michael's family is nice enough for the most part. This would be his mothers family. Michael was not happy to be there, probably more unhappy than I was bored which says a lot. When I get stuck in a conversation about cars and weather for more than 10 minutes I begin to mentally disconnect myself from the scene and pretend that I'm not there at all. It works okay. I smile a lot, and people like it when you agree with almost anything they say.

The nasty part of the trip was the Grandma, who was bemoaning her MS the entire time and biting here family with passive aggressive comments whenever she could. She wonders why no one visits and why people move so far away. She had this thin gray curly hair and and a mustache that rivals any man I know. She also had very bright pink lipstick and she stared at me when I wasn't looking. I caught her doing this a lot.

Michael and I amused ourselves for a lot of the trip with hangman and scrabble. The scrabble belonged to a dead old lady who passed it onto a nearly dead old lady named Trudy who leant it to us. The box had the bottom and two flaps of the side, the board, the 4 cribs, and a bag for the letters that had dorothy sewn into the flowery side (in cursive no less). I want one. Dorothy is not a name you hear very often now days is it?

Well there's going to be a lot of rushing about in these next few weeks. Wendy got her job in Britain so the house will be rented out soon for the year until she comes back. Meanwhile, MIchael and I have to get ourselves to Wellington. Also, I've been dealing with getting this permit stamped for 6 more months and just sent the forms out today. There's a lot to take care of in the upcoming few weeks so I doubt I'll be on much, if at all. I don't even know how long the internet will be lasting before it's canceled. I guess this means I might be saying my goodbyes for awhile.

On a side note, I did finally get around to loading some images of the Abbey Caves.

There is a forested area and a grassy area so I guess I'll begin with the forest. Like I explained before the entire area was under the ocean and so there are gigantic rocks all around. There appears also to have been an ancient forest at some point (ie the petrified wood). looksee )

indeed [Mar. 4th, 2006|01:49 pm]
Yesterday I accompanied Michael down to Auckland for our second to last time (we have one more visit left bc Michael has to finish up a final exam). Anyway, it was quite nice. We drove up early to bask in the loveliness that is high speed internet for awhile, and then went for a long walk. There was an abandoned train station and an abandoned stadium right nearby which I drooled over. I want to bring my camera next time and I felt like hitting myself for forgetting it.

The whole area felt out of place. Both the stadium and the station were located in this trendy little area towards the back. It just seems surreal to pass expensive apartments and then stumble into two very large, graffiti covered, abandoned complexes. The stadium had some cars parked in it, but for the most part it was a complete mess.
